Prioritise Yourself - Pillar 1

To beat the Sunday Scaries we need to start with ourselves before helping family, colleagues and team members. Fit your own oxygen mask first!

Create a boundary, commit to it and make it a habit. Is there a specific exercise class or family activity you don’t want to miss? Is it a working preference, like ‘no meetings after 5pm Friday or before 10am Monday’? Turn it into a commitment and make it happen. Trust me, with perseverance you will get there.

The 21/90 rule states that it takes 21 days to make a habit and 90 to make it a permanent lifestyle change. For me it’s my yoga class at 7.30am every Monday. I know on Sunday afternoon that this will set me up for the week and that I’ll feel good at 8.30 on a Monday.

I tell people about this boundary so that they can support me to go, set myself up for the week and be a better calmer version of myself. In doing this I’m also role-modelling boundaries. All our circumstances are different, so if one hour feels impossible start with 15 minutes. But start!

So, the first step is to define boundaries for yourself and turn them into habits - it only takes 21 days.
